Earth Week Edition: Mindful Morning Routine!

As we prepare ourselves to shimmy back into real life, with real responsibility, let's use the newness to make some simple changes to our routine for the better of all involved! I know if given the opportunity, most of you reading this would be willing to make small changes for a cleaner, healthier, happier world.

The question I hear the most is, "Where do I even begin?" By golly, you're in luck! For the next 5 days, we'll take a look at easy lifestyle swaps you can make that will have a big result (Bonus: with minimal inconvenience)! There truly are limitless ways you can improve your carbon footprint. Some of us have to baby-step in, and some of us want the big-impact moves. All of these items are available via Amazon, making them highly accessible. The goal of this list is to see where you feel most comfortable. Any starting point is good, but you have to begin.

Today, we will lend our focus to your Morning Routine.

For many of us coffee fiends, our morning just ain't right until we get that cup o' joe. If you're someone who likes to wake up early or work from home, Bodum is a prem-O French Press. If you're unfamiliar with how to brew in such a fancy thing, a quick Google Search will introduce you. The short wait time to a create delicious cup reminds me to slow down in the morning, already creating a more mindful start to my soon-to-be distracted day.

However, if you're an up-n-GO!-out-of-the-house-type person, you may find yourself at any of the wonderful local coffee kiosks on your way to work. I'm guilty of this from time to time too, but it's IMPERATIVE that you know this statistic. It's estimated that, globally, 2.5 billion single-use cups are sent to landfill every year. The waxed cups don't actually break down like we would like to think. So, what's an easy-peasy swap for the greater good?

Yeti Teal Tumbler Coffee<----These 20oz beauties! (Or, if ya real thirsty, the 30oz!) Not only does it actually fit in your console, this will keep your drink hot/cold for hours to come. Unlike other tumblers I've purchased, the coating on these makes them look brand new and beautiful for years to come. They make great gifts, too!

If you're a straw person and your sweet lil' bevies just don't feel the same without one, I totally hear you (I'll save you from all the sad ocean pics here). Please get a silicone straw.

We're all adults here. Make the better choice. These days, you can choose all kinds of fun, vibrant colors, and they're actually quite easy to clean. If you're an A+ Earth Warrior and have these already, think about taking the next step and grab these collapsible travel straws for your keychain!

All right, I saved the weirdest for last. Hear me out though, I have these and love them. They take a little getting used to, as does any habit, and from time to time, I'll admit I use Jay's toothpaste out of pure laziness. I introduce you to your new zero-waste toothpaste: ChewTabs! These neat little tablets are like tic-tacs you chew and voila! turn into toothpaste. Think of them as 'toothpaste concentrate,' and just add water!

***Honorable Mention: One of my absolute game-changing morning updates has been a Daylight Alarm Clock. If you wake up before the sun rises or sleep after it sets (because we all do right?), the brightening/dimming features of this clock help in maintaining your circadian rhythm and make waking-up less aggressive. Your roommates and family will be grateful!

Well folks, there you have it. Three choices you can swap to be more mindful of your Morning Routine. Again, we all have different paths. If today you only shorten your shower by a minute or two, you'll still be doing your part to save upwards of 150 gallons of water a month. Every little bit counts. You simply need to begin.

(This blog post contains products I personally use and love from Amazon. I may earn a small commission to fund my coffee drinking habit if you use these links to make a purchase. You will be not charged extra, and you'll keep me supplied in caffeine. It's a win for everyone, really. Have a lovely day, peeps)
